Stop giving your time away

Stop giving your time away.

Freedom of my time is what I care about most. Why do I work? To make money to live… to really live. Which is something I need TIME to do. And if all my time is spent working, then what’s the point… right?

Yes bottom line is, you need money to live. But does your spending align with your values? What do you value most?

For me its quality time - with myself, friends and family, and nature. Of course there are other things in the mix… good food, a nice space, art supplies!! But looking at it in the simplest way - is my time spent working adding value to my life? Does my spending align with what I want? Or am I trapping myself in this unnecessary cycle? Little hits of dopamine from purchasing these small desires with that money I gave away my time for. I traded the most precious thing I have for that, in hopes that it would reward me.

Look at money in terms of energy currency - you are trading your energy for this stuff. When you look at it that way… those things you kind of want, that don’t align with your true desires (for example - dessert when you already feel full) become less appealing. And not only do you trade your time for these things, you allow them to make you feel bad about yourself. Why?

Don’t give these things so much power. After all, they are just things.

If you find yourself really stressed after a long day of work, ask yourself what you’re trading that for? Is it worth it to you? Is it really?

I’d rather have the time and energy to grow my own garden or cook a beautiful meal than work longer hours only to spend that energy on takeout. I would rather travel the world on a cheap budget, than work full-time, year round to afford one week in a resort. But those are just my values. Check in with yourself. What are yours?
